The race which is part of the Kia Series continues to grow in popularity and attracts a great mix of top local and international talent alongside recreational runners. The weather held up for the duration of the race and the trio of Tonosa (course record holder from 2018), Somba and Donore athlete Keogh had a nice lead built up after the first mile. They extended this as they headed towards Newtown and at the third kilometre Tonosa and Somba notched it up a bit more to battle out the fianl stages with a little more in hand befor the DSD man made his decisive move at the Sheeps Gate hill to cross the line seven seconds clear of the Dunboyne athlete.Record numbers attended the 2019 Braveheart 5km in the wonderful setting of Porchfields, Trim.
The womans race was a more clearcut affair from early on. Mary Mulhaire from Portlaoise is enjoyning a great season on the roads and Trim was her lated conquest. She is currently leading the womens rakings in the Kia Series. The second placed runner Sinead O'Connor form Leevale AC in Cork city put in strong performance for runner up spot and at the finiah had thhirty seconds to spare over Isobel Oakes.
In the team categories the host club scored a double with Sean Murphy leading the men home and emerging junior talent Ava Costello the top finisher for the womens squad.
The Larry Daly Cup for the first Meath registered man went to Peter Somba from Dunboyne AC and the L&P Daly Trophy for women was also won by a Dunboyne athlete, Laura Buckley who is something of a specialist over trail and cross country type courses.
Trim AC were very pleased with the turnout for the race and the wonderful support which it received in staging the event from the their sponsors and agencies like Meath Co Co,the OPW, Gardai, Civil Defence and Trim Haymaking.
This years selected charity beneficiaries will be the National Rehabilitation Hospital,Dun Laoghaire and the local Philip McNally Fund.
