The Connemara Marathon and Ultramarathon races took place on Saturday. The race routes cover some of the most stunning landscapes in Ireland including Lough Inagh, Killary Harbour, Leenane, and finishing through Maum to Maam Cross. This year the competitiors had to contend with very tough weather conditions in addition to the usual climbs associated with running though the north western reaches of the Twelve Pin mountains.
Kieran Corcoran from Trim AC finished third over the normal 26.2 marathon course. The route took him from Lough Inagh to Leenane and Maam with a combined elevation of 250 metres en route. Corcorans time of 3 hours was very impressive given the difficult weather conditions. In the ultra marathon over a course just shy of 40 miles Robert Farrell and Shane Parkinson came across the line in 5h58m
