Ellen in BEAST MODE

Ellen Vitting tamed the Best of Ballyhoura when completing the gruelling 72 hour adventure race on Sunday morning. She was the only female member of the four person "Beast Mode" squad which finished 34th out of 50 teams from all around Europe.
Having been part of the race series in 2014, this year saw Ireland's premier adventure race, the Beast of Ballyhoura, take its place amongst Europe's finest races. The tracks, trails, rivers and forests of Munster hosted the Finals of the 2015 Adventure Racing European Series (ARES).
The Race Disciplines were as follows
Mountain biking – teams took on a range of riding including single track, steep hills, gravel roads and sealed roads.
Trekking – the race included upland treks in Waterford, Tipperary, Cork and Limerick through rugged and diverse terrain. The hills were wet and boggy in places.
Kayaking – Kayaking included inland rivers and began at sea near Waterford..
Swimming - teams were required to cross rivers, lakes and coastal sections. .
Rope work. There were anumber of sections including abseiling, traversing, ascending etc.
Orienteering – orienteering was an extremely important part of the race. The course was not marked and teams were required to navigate using maps.
