Glendalough Trail Run

On Saturday 17 November 14 runners from Trim AC took part in the Fighting Blindness GLENDALOUGH TRAIL RUNS. There are two distance options (15.5km and 8.6km) on this event which takes place against the impressive backdrop of the Glendalough valley in its autumnal glory. Many of our runners have a particular affinity with the Fighting Blindness charity.
Ellen Vitting won the womens long course with a really strong performance completing the course in 75 mins and a margin of 3 mins. over her nearest rival. She rushed off before the prizegiving to get ready for the Triathlon Ireland awards later that evening . Next Trim woman was mountain debutante Heather Carty coming home an impressive 3rd and mountain veteran Ann Tobin 6th. In the mens long course Quinton Bourke scored an M40 win and was unfortunate to miss out on overall podium when slipping on the descent onto the Green Road. Laura Cotter raised a tidy sum of sponsorship for one of her favourite causes and enjoyed the vistas. Each year more members of the club travel to this event to get a taste of the mountain experience. This time it was the turn of Claire Smith, Avril O'Neill Winters, Darlene Reilly, Valerie Cronin, Karen Westphal and Tatyana Feeney to scale the heights. It was a mostly positive experience for them and plans are being made for a return visit.
Darlene Reilly, Karen Westphal and Valerie Cronin are already planning a return visit for 2019. Mightily impressed with the run and the challenge
