Longwood Races grow in popularity

The 10th edition of the Longwood Village 5km and 10km took place in brilliant autumn sunshine on Sunday 21 October.
These races continue to go from strength to strength. The community effort and huge experience gained in recent years by the marshalls on the 3/4 Marathon stands them very well in the superb organisation of the event. There were over 700 entries to the races this year with a great atmosphere adding to the occasion.
The womens 5km was won by our own Ava Costello in a time of 19.15 . Ava who is still in the junior ranks put in a strong run to finish ahead of Maud Anne Foley and Mary Hanley. Our next finisher was Aoife Gallagher who clocked 20.55 in the junior womens category.
In the W40 category Helen Hartnett put in a strong performance to win her category in 43.32. and heads into next weekends DCM with some confidence building runs under her belt since Berlin.
