Well what an evening it was in Claremont Stadium last night. It never rains but it pours, and it certainly poured down with new PB's and medals for our young athletes.
Well done to all
We are awaiting on official times and places for some of these age groups as there were a few heats for the younger groups. Once i have them, I will send on a.s.a.p.
But what a performance these athletes put in, with a bit more training and understanding of the baton change, we'll certainly get there.
U/13 Girls
Holly O'Donnell
Sarah Caulfield
Sinead Murphy
Caitlyn Linsley
These girls were fantastic last night, with no practice with one of the girls, they managed to hold it together, not a baton in sight falling. Well done girls
U/14 Girls
Emma Gibney
Kate McLoughlin
Aoife Gallagher
Ella Curran
This was the first time these girls all ran together, they ran a powerful race and I know for some it was nerve wracking but they did themselves proud. Well done girls.
The following age groups were in a straight final
U/15 Boys
Patrick Brophy
Jack O'Donnell
Tomás Gallagher
Adam Boylan
This is the first relay competition that these lads have entered and their training certainly paid off, coming in 4th place and just pipped at the line, it was a great race to watch to the very end. Well done lads and we'll get them next time.
U/15 Girls
Jenna Gonsalves
Leah Mahon
Leighann Massey
Jennifer Nugent
These girls were on fire last night, even with half the team at the Leinster Schools, they powered through their competition and came in to collect the gold, well done girls.
U/16 Girls
Zoe McEvoy
Leah Mahon
Petra Harten
Jennifer Nugent
With Schools on same day, these girls were tired, soldiered on to the last event of the night for the juveniles and what a performance they put in. Up against some tough teams but that didn't stop them, they powered through and collected the gold, well done girls.
***Just a note, as with all Team competitions it is vital that all athletes show up for the training, we have great potential with these athletes. And as with all Team events whether it's Soccer, GAA, Camogie I'm sure if you don't show for training, you won't get picked for the team. There is quite a bit involved in this event, a lot of technical work and most importantly team work.
It's not just about passing the baton to the next person, it's knowing your team, what speed they come in at and what speed you go out. Each athlete should know their incoming and outgoing team member. And the only way to achieve this is with practice and commitment.
