INTRODUCING.......PAULA HEGARTY
1.When did you start running
In Primary school and then later as a young teen with a local club..and then it gets hazy.....
2. How did you end up joining the club
I moved to Trim in 2010 and saw an ad for Trim Meet and Train...best thing I ever did and have never looked back
3. Favourited race (excluding the Trim 10 Miler and Braveheart 5k)
Kildalkey 10km and also The Relay up in Wicklow (that one is mental).
4. What do you crave after a run
Where do I start....jaffa cakes, tea, snacks, sandwiches ..I could keep going..there really should be healthy food in there!!
5. Pre-race meal
Usually Weetabix or porridge...perhaps a banana at the race and a jaffa.. I really got to stop eating!!!
6. Miles or KM
KM as that is what my watch instructs me
7. Any race superstition
No, too busy trying to set the blooming watch...or pin on my number
8. Track, road or XC?
Definitely road, get dizzy going around track
9. Why do you run ?
I run for a couple of reasons:
To get away from people..but they keep finding me.
To clear my head - already empty
Enjoy the freedom of being able to run
Love the socializing and the chats
Being part of a great club
10. Best running memory?
Taking part in the road relays in Bohermeen. Always an amazing night. Warm weather, loads of people and great craic and atmosphere...everyone supporting everyone..and the bond Trim AC have is just priceless. Although the best one was when the mile markers were all wrong. Classic night
11. What do you miss most from a running perspective during lockdown?
The chats , chats chats and people..oh sorry and the fast drills and tempos etc
12. Most memorable race that you didn’t compete in
2018 European championships...I just missed out on qualifying plus i had a hair appointment that day.
13. Who is your running hero?
Growing up, it wou look d have been Sonia O'Sullivan, she really put female runners on the map.
14. Split shorts or tight shorts.
