MEET MOIRA GROOME Masters sprinter who turns in top results year in year out. Multiple county, provincial and national titles in 60m,100m and 200m.

 

1.When did you start running

Ran in my youth days, returned in my late 30’s

2. When did you join Trim AC ?

2002

3.Why do you run ?

For fitness for all sports and I’m competitive (lol)

4.Favourite event, race or competition ?

60m and 200m’s / Indoor Season

5. Have you any pre event routine apart from your warm-up ?

I try to visualize my race, how to run it and I’ll do my warm-up drills

6. Favourite type of training. ?

I love doing running drills, Hill running and strength training
(cross-fit)

7.Who is your athletics hero ?

Athletics: Usain Bolt
Sports Athlete: Conor McGregor (very focused on his training and
dedicated to his sport)

8. What is your best memory from the sport ?

Winning my first National Gold medal / Running in the European Master Athletics in Madrid

9. What motivates you to train ?

I like to keep fit, I believe ‘Strong in body, strong in mind’

10. What aspect of the sport gives you satisfaction ?

Training for an event, It’s good to have goals, Nice to win too! ‘All change is hard at first, messy in the middle, great at the end’!

11. How important is group training to you ?

Very important, keeps me motivated, catch-up time and drives me
to keep training

12. Has the sport influenced life in general ?

Definitely, I feel great when I’m training, more energy and relieves
stress

13 . Have you a favourite meal before or after events ?

I like to eat light so I would have some oats and banana a few hours before my race

!4. What motivates you to go training on a wet and windy day ?
To reach my goals that I have set out

15. What advice would you give a new member ?

If a beginner, don’t put pressure on yourself to get fit quickly, pace yourself. Don’t give up, we were all beginners.

 

Join our club

We have juvenile and adult training groups. We cover track and field, cross country, road running and trail/ mountain running. Club coaches have undertaken Athletics Ireland coaching courses and many of them bring years of experience and knowledge to share with members.
