National senior medals for Harry and Shane

Posted by Ciaran Tobin on 28 July 2019

Harry Purcell finished the 400m final in a very unconventional style with a leap for glory that ended .04 of a second off the gold . The Trim runner put in a strong run and battled it out down the finishing straight with eventual winner Christopher O Donnell,North Sligo AC who won in 47.05 with Harry impressing in 47.09.  He had  earned his place in the final with a fastest qualifier run of 47.38 in his heat on Saturday.

The recent exertions of the European combined events team competition where he impressed with a 4th place individual and a team silver seemed to have caught up on Shane Aston when he ended out of the medals in the javelin on Saturday. However in true Shane style he made light of the adversity and put it right with a bronze medal run in the 110m hurdles in 14.93.
