New Champions in Trim AC Bewleys 10

The second running of the Trim AC Bewleys 10 mile road race took place over a fast and relatively flat circuit which took the athletes through the neighbouring villages of Dunderry and Kilbride. Organisers and athletes were glad that the rain held off for the race but once again this winter the strong winds presented a considerable challenge.
Overall victory in the mens race went to Paddy Hamilton from the recently formed Slieve Gullion Runners in Armagh who battled it out in a very close run contest with Eoin O Callaghan from the east Meath club Star of the Sea. He emerged six second ahead of the Meath man with a time of 51m32. Hamilton was satisfied with his performance and expressed the view that training in the hillier terrain of the Cooleys and south Armagh served him well on the more benign plains of Meath.
In the womens race we had another new name claiming the honours with Aine O Reilly from Mullingar Harriers coming out tops in a fiercely contested battle with Caitriona Jennings, Rathfarnham AC and Charlotte Kearney, Donadea crossing the line with just ten seconds between them after ten miles of running.
In the masters categories consistent performers like Mary Hanley, Tom McGrath merged on top of their grades. Recent running recruit from the world of triathlon Andrea McGuinness topped the W40 and Eddie Newman defied the years with an breaking the hour to win the M50 grade in 57.53.
Team honours in mens and womens races went to Mullingar Harriers with second mens team Dunboyne and second womens team the host club Trim.
