RUN FOREST RUN

"Taking part in the Portumna Forest Marathon is a spiritual experience – while it tests the body physically, it soothes the mind in equal proportions. The runners, crew, and marshalls blend in with the environment and although there is plenty of clapping and encouragement for the runners there is a serenity about the place that bows down to the beauty of the natural environment."
Having spent her early childhood in the south Galway town Helen set her sights on the eloquently described event as a "must do" race earlier this year. This change from city marathons didnt disappoint. She loved everything about the event with a great off road course through the forest and plenty of encouragement from spectators and officials. She made light work of the challenging terrain to knock 8 minutes off her previous marathon best. Best of all she emerged as the best woman in the race running 3h32m27s. Clubmate Irene Curley was equally happy with her trip to Galway and was very happy to run 1h47 in her half marathon.
WELL DONE
