The early stages of this run heads off in the direction of Ventry to Slea head and finishes near Dunquin. It is a challenging route with a lot of hills, twists and turns. The scenery is truly breath taking with magnificent views of the Blasket islands. Passing Dunquin the spectacular scenery continues to keep the spirit alive. Once you are through the beautiful village of Ballyferriter, the journey continues on with some very special views of Murreagh. An extremely tough part of the course lies ahead, with a number of gruelling up hills. The variables presented by Atlantic weather conditions also make this marathon a real challenge.
Last Saturday Sean Murphy from travelled to his native county to take part in this unique and challenging event. He met up with his brothers to do the what has become an annual fixture in his running calendar. He completed the course in an excellent time of 2h50m and claimed third place behind Gary O Hanlon, Clonliffe Harrier and Eoin Sugrue. This was Seans best ever time and shows his preparation for the Dublin City Marathon 2014 is going well.
