SheelinChallenge2018

St Brigids AC made a decision this year to switch the date of its Sheelin Challenge to autumn. The September date for the 16 mile event proved popular with many runners as it fitted in with their marathon training plans. A great rural route through lovely countryside brought the athletes from the Crover House Hotel (race sponsors) around by Finnea and Ross taking in Cavan, Westmeath, Meath and back to Cavan to finish just metres from where they set out.
In the M40 grade Quinton Bourke was well pleased with his running and finished third in a time of 1.44.59. Helen Hartnett raced hard to finish 3rd in the W40 in a great time of 2.06. There were three other Trim women taking part , Ulrike Strubing,2.09.52; Ciara Delany Stewart,2.17.44;Anke Hannika,2.25.21. Brian Cully continued his countdown to NYC Marathon with a 2.57 run.
In the 10km race staged over the latter stages of the Challenge from Ross through Mountnugent. Ciaran Tobin won the M50 in 46.29, Ann Tobin was 1st W50 in 50.43 next home from Trim was Carrie Brogan, 3rd W50,55.10 then John Rowe in 58.55.
The hospitality was superb with nice pasta carbonara or chicken curry served up to revive the runners. With its new autumn date keep it in mind ifyou are planning to do DCM2019.
