Silver and Bronze for Trim at SeniorXC
Posted by Ciaran Tobin on 9 December 2019
Congratulations and well done to all our senior athletes who put in great efforts for the club at the 2019 Meath Senior XC at Ardbraccan. A nice feature of the day was the support and bond between the two adult teams. They were encouraged by their offsping and friends cheering around the course. Team spirit when it is most needed.
And it paid off!
The club was very well represented in both races and this was rewarded for both teams with podium placing. The weather conditions were quite poor for the womens race as they ventured into the great wide open (not under a sky so blue though). Ellen Vitting was our leading finisher in 4th, Helen Hartnett put in another great effort as second Trim finisher and the scorers were completed by a very single minded Heather Carty and the rapidly improving Ciara Delany Stewart. The efforts of our other runners contributed to a great team performance. Well done to Sharon Costello,Dayle Johnson and Anita Rogers. It's the best result form a Trim team in the Meath senior XC in over twenty years
.
The mens race was blessed with a marked improvement in the weather and the lads took inspiration from the womens silver into their race. Thomas Moran,Dunshaughlin AC hit the front from the word go leaving the next pack of five or six to battle it out. Once again Sean Murphy was in the thick of proceedings and he led our club to a team bronze. There was a group of three Trim runners in the next group and their steady progression through the field was well managed and delivered the bronze for the fast finishing Tom Feeley, the improving David O'Connor and Padraig Farrell. It was great to see the club colours out in such numbers with Kieran Corcoran,Quinton Bourke, Enda Markey,Andrew Linsley, Stephen Byrne putting in a good mornings work that will stand to them again over the coming months.
WE can now look forward to a bit of easing off over the Christmas and we can then refocus on the rearranged county masters which our club hosts on Sunday 5th January. Thanks to both squads for making the time to compete and do so well for our club. The lads have taken team medals in each grade of XC this season. A fine achievement.
Thanks to the Stephen Ball and the host club Bohermeen AC, John Rowe for sorting our entries, Pat Comey for being THE MAN on site, to the stalwarts of Meath Athletics Brendan, Maggie, Tommy and competition secretary Paddy for bringing out the best in our sport all year round.
