Tough as Iron

Posted by Ciaran Tobin on 21 August 2018

Ernest Asensio Blasco, Stephen O Neill, Anita Rogers and Niamh Timmons took on the challenge of Ironman70.3 on Sunday 19 August.

It was a tough day for this event with issues arising during the swim which resulted in people having to complete up to 500 metres over the distance (so much for professional/commercial race organisations ???). The bike phase was over challenging hilly route in the Wicklow mountains passing through Roundwood, Sally Gap and Glencullen in dismal wet conditions. There were numerous crashes due to slippery roads and poor visability on the descents. The run phase in and around Dun Laoghaire seemed to be a dawdle despite fatique after the rigours of the swim and bike phases.

Ernest clocked 5.24 for 8th in age, Stephen 7.11, Anita 7.37. Unfortunately Niamh had to withdraw with illness at an advanced sstage of the bike which she jokingly attributed to sea sickness!

WELL DONE TO ALL.
