Congratulations and well done to our clubmates Ellen Vitting and Jonathan Nangle on receiving their Triathlon Ireland awards in the Gibson Hotel.
Ellen was winner of the BMW National Triathlon Series. She put in an outstanding season of competitions throughout the country including the rigourous Lost Sheep in Kenmare, the Carlow Tri on the Barrow and culminating nearer home with the Pulse Triathlon in and around Clogherhead and Dunany in county Louth.
She set dwon a marker early in the season with great form in the Setanta Duathlon series in Dundalk and a string of top races in the Belpark series in the Phoenix Park. Ellen combines all this with a busy work and domestic schedule throwing in the occasional Adventure race or marathon to keep things interesting. In October she ran on the Meath county squad which won team silver in the Leinster novice cross country championship and the following day ran the Dublin City Marathon. She is one of the outstanding multi sports athletes in the country.
Jonathan Nangle was awarded for his second place finish in the BMW National Duathlon series and an excellent third place in the BMW National Duathlon championship. During the late winter and spring he took part in the National Duathlon Series which consists of eight races throughout the country. The conditions for these races can be described as "variable". His best scores were notched up in the National Championships at Letterkenny, Galco Duathlon hosted by Naas TC in Punchestown and the Ennis TC event in Barefield Co Clare.
