Connemara Ultra what can I say. ( ROBERT FARRELL pens another epic tale)

3 pics Start, marathon point and finish. An epic course and a spectacular place. Did the marathon last year and the Ultra this year and I have to say the camaraderie between runners is amazing. Each one helping each other up the hills wether your running the half, full or ultra. Weather warning was all everyone was talking about before the race but this is Connemara. The weather here changes from minute to minute. You get everything and we got luckyish. Rain stopped and didn't start till after 15,16 miles in.

The Race went pretty well running the whole way with my training partner Shane who is running out of his skin this year. What a race he ran considering Connemara was his 1st marathon last year. This man was in a bad car accident years ago and couldn't walk. Now he is flying around one of the toughest Ultra courses around. A true inspiration and shows you what you can do when you put your mind to it. We cruised the first 26 miles running into Leenane to our amazing support crew Karen( Shanes wife) and of course my better half Tara Ginnerty. They had our drinks and quick change of clothes ready and away we went again.

Looking at our watch's we were 3:40 for the marathon but we new what we had ahead, some big climbs and rolling hills with a strong headwind making it tougher. We battled on and reached the Hell of the West a 2mile climb to the top. It's such a tough climb especially when you have 35miles in your legs but you know once you reach the Top you have 2 miles down to the finish, where again our support crew were there to cheer us home. Sub 6 we came to get and that's what we got.

Great weekend with great people and great performance also to Kieran Corcoran on his 3rd place in the marathon on his debut down there. Strong as a horse that lad. Also before I finish blabbing I wanna wish Philip McNally and his passenger all the best in their recovery from their recent accident. Them miles were for them as I know Philip loved the running and adventure races. Would love to see you back some day. #staystrong #Darknessintolighttrim#fightingmentalhealth #sosadnavan
