The Meath even ages, junior and novice cross country championships were staged on the scenic parklands which surround the Oldbridge Visitor Centre near the Battle of the Boyne site on Sunday 6 October. Cilles AC hosted the event for the first time and what a fine job they made of it along with the county athletics board.
Ellen Vitting put in a great effort taking on the challenge from early in the race to claim top spot in the womens novice event. Helen Hartnett had a very strong run just seven days after completing the Berlin Marathon. Unfortunately we did not have enough runners to make up a team.
In the novice mens race David O Connor,Pauric Farrell,Andy Linsley and Enda Markey finished second to Dunshaghlin in the team category. Great running from 3 masters and 1 senior.
Our under 18 womens team of Ava Costello, Taylor Stack and Leighann Massey were the top team with Ava leading them home in 2nd place.
The mens U18 team of Seamus Anderson,Patrick Brophy and Eric Halton finished second.
In the younger age groups there were great efforts and promising debuts in the non championship under 10 races. Our boys were 4th team. Robyn Larkin finished 2nd and led the under 14 girls to team bronze. We had a very impressive 1/2 in the girls under 16 where Katie Mulchrone took it on from the start for a strong and steady Run for gold. Aoife Gallagher grew in confidence after the first kilometre to work her was through to an impresive silver.
