Masters and Inter XC medals for Trim

SUCCESS in Cork for Trim

In the womens masters race Helen Hartnett and Ann Tobin were part of the Meath squad which performed well to claim inter county silver behind Kerry. It was a day of unexpected delight for Ann Tobin when she finished first in W60 grade turning the tables on one of her rivals from the Leinsters by a margin of just 10 seconds. In the W50 grade Helen Hartnett put in another of her storming runs to finish just off the podium by 3 seconds. She was the second Meath woman home in the W50 team behind Emilia Dan of Dunboyne.

The mens masters race saw a full complement of runners from the club making up our M50 team. Their efforts were rewarded with an historic team silver in the inter club competition. Sean Murphy led the team home in 24.25 and claimed third place individually in the M50 competition. Mick Counsel was the next Trim runner home with Mark McGee and Enda Markey running very strong to be the other scoring contributors . The team has had a great winter season and this run was a fitting reward for their efforts. In the county competition this quartet were aided by Andrew Revington and Ciaran Tobin and this combination finished 5th in the inter county grade.

The M35 trio of Ronan Moore, Kieran Corcoran and Adam Geoghegan travelled knowing that we were short the necessary four runners for the club to count but it was a pity that their combined efforts with Richie Bell, Fr Murphy AC and Rory Kavanagh, Dunboyne AC for the county fell short as there were not the required six counting runners from the county.

There were no such worries in the womens intermediate race. Edel Gaffney and Ellen Vitting ran very well with Edel getting home in ninth overall with a 19.40 run for 5km on challenging terrain and Ellen settling in during the race to finish 30th. They combined with the Dunboyne team that finished 2nd club team to bring a silver medal to Meath for the inter county competition.

All round there was a great sense of camaraderie and purpose to our trip to the nationals which was rewarded by great individual and team efforts for club and county. The individual medals for Ann and Sean were great to achieve at this level and the M50 team result will hopefully encourage increased involvement by club members in team competitons.
