If you want fun on the run. Here's the man.

From the running stronghold of Letterkenny it's.......Don Rosney

1.When did you start running

I first took up running when I was 15, I was doing the president’s award for the bronze medal, had to take up a sport, decided to try running for an athletic club and never looked back. I ran for Letterkenny AC for 6 years.

2. When did you join Trim AC ?

A year after I moved to Kilmessan in 2013, I heard from my wife to be to contact Ciaran and Ann Tobin. First time I met them they where so friendly and couldn’t wait to get me down to a training session. Delighted I joined this amazing club.

3.Why do you run ?

When I was 15-20 I was pretty competitive, was a great buzz if I ever broke 20minutes in a 5k. I used to love always winning the 800m races in school, but now I enjoy running to keep fit and meet new people.

4.Favourite event, race or competition (other than a Trim AC event)?

When I was 16 or 17 one of my favourite events was the all Ireland finals in Nenagh indoor 800m. Favourite 5k apart from Trim AC has to be Letterkenny. You will not get a flatter course than that. If you like hills you should do Cranford 5k in Donegal ( never again in a million years ) it’s basically all up hill. They should call it All Up Hill 5k.

5.Do you listen to music, podcasts or the natural world while running ?

Never listen to music when I run.

6. Favourite type of training. ?

I like the hill sessions and long runs.

7.Who is your athletics hero ?

Usain Bolt, Mo Farah, Jakob Ingebrigsten.

8. What is your best memory from the sport ?

In 2016 I did my first marathon and it was in Dublin. I was aiming to break 4 hours which I did and when I crossed the line I met my fiancé and she gave me a hug and told me I was gonna be a Dad. I will never forget and a year later the last 300m I carried my son over the finish line at 3 months old.

9. What is the best race or athletics competition you ever watched but did not take part in ?

It was the Chicago marathon a number of years back, I can’t remember his name, he was very short. Had a afro and a moustache and he was so far behind but he came out of no where, overtook the leaders and left them for dust and won the race.

10. What aspect of the sport gives you satisfaction ?

Just being able to get out and run I am happy.

11. How important is group training to you ?

Very important, without it, It would be hard to push yourself in speed sessions or doing long runs.

12. Has the sport influenced life in general ?

Yes I met so many amazing people in the club. Over the last 7 years to see how everyone has progressed is truly amazing.

13 .What do you feel is your best sporting attribute?

Always positive, always up for the craic.

!4. What motivates you to go training on a wet and windy day ?

The feeling after a good hard session on bad day makes it better.

15. What advice would you give a new member ?

Give it a go, all different types of level of fitness can join and you will meet amazing athletes who will inspire you... apart from Heather Carty, stay away from her, she likes to cheat ( hahaha ) sorry Heather had to get that in. Will never forget that day
