Meet our Athletes; Emma Parkinson
Posted by Ciaran Tobin on 17 May 2020
From cross country in the Porchfield to the Dolomite peaks via the Bob Heffernan 5km this woman just loves to run. Her preference though is the call of the wild and she is probably in her element clipping along the Wicklow Way by Djouce towards Ballinastoe Wood. She has taken on a few multi discipline races as well.
EMMA PARKINSON
1.When did you start running?
2006/07
2. When did you join Trim AC ?
Around 2013 I think. I was introduced to Ciaran Tobin by Brian Cully & next thing he was roaring at me from the roadside at races around Meath. I decided I must join this club!!
3.Why do you run ?
I run mostly for my head, running makes me feel stronger mentally & physically
4.Favourite event, race or competition?
I love Wicklow Way Relay, but also love any cross country or trail events. I love the freedom of the hills & trails & not looking at my watch regularly!!
5. Have you any pre event routine apart from your warmup?
I always arrive very early & get rightly wound up before events!
6. Favourite type of training ?
Probably hill training
7.Who is your athletics hero:
Killian Jornet (mountain runner) & Usain Bolt
8. What is your best memory from the sport ?
Being on winning team in cross country, team events are great
9. What is the best race or athletics competition you ever watched but did not take part in ?
I watched a mountain run in Dolimites a few years ago & was so impressed & envious not to be joining them!
10. What aspect of the sport gives you satisfaction ?
Cross country
11. How important is group training to you ?
I really enjoy group training when I go, especially in Porchfields, but I love running early in the morning so that's when I do most of my training
12. Has the sport influenced life in general?
Yes, I have met some wonderful people through the sport in general, but in particular in Trim AC
13 . Have you a favourite meal before or after events ?
Always porridge & coffee if it's an early event or banana & Berocca if its later. Afterwards I'd eat anything that comes my way!
!4. What motivates you to go training on a wet and windy day ?
I hate the wind, but it always makes me feel stronger. There's no better feeling that having a nice hot shower after a tough run on a wet windy day.
15. What advice would you give a new member ?
Dont worry about speed if you are new to running, just get a routine going & stick to it. If not able to make training all the time just do your own session. Best thing about running is you can do it anywhere anytime!
