Meet our Athletes.......HEATHER CARTY

We finally get the chance to subject the chief interrogator to a questionnaire. You've been Heathered !

1.When did you start running

 

I started at 35 years young.

 

 

2. How did you end up joining the club

 

I saw an advertisement in The Focus for a new Meet and Train group and Ollie pushed me out the door (as he needed a break )

 

3. Favourite race(Excluding the Trim 10 Miler and Braveheart 5k)

 

Tough choice but I'd go for the Bohermern Half Marathon

 

4. What do you crave after a run

 

To talk!!!

 

5. Pre-race meal

 

Porridge and a cup of coffee

 

6. Miles or KM

 

Miles ALWAYS!!?

 

7. Any race superstition

 

Not talking ...

Way too many and weird to put up here

 

8. Track, road or XC?

 

Road

 

9. Why do you run ?

 

I am an over-thinker but when I run things seem to become clearer... And it gives Ollie a break!

 

10. Best running memory?

 

My favourite memories are made up of;

Post race,just over the finish line, head over to the Red and White and have the best laughs for about an hour. I love that post race craic

 

11. What do you miss most from a running perspective during lockdown?

 

Club training sessions on Tuesday/Thursday. I'm not great at pushing myself, I need my mates to push me on...

 

12. Most memorable race that you didn’t compete in

 

Ollie's Ironman in Killarney. The Hardman race around Kerry... A day I really remember...

 

13. Who is your running hero

 

Sean Murphy

 

14. Split shorts or tight shorts

 

Split shorts training

And a particular racing pair from Enda Markey / Inverse

 

 

15. What do you listen to during a run( music/podcast)

 

In normal times clubmates. Never really listened to stuff before but listening to mix of '80s and running podcast (e.g. Runner Beans)

 

Join our club

We have juvenile and adult training groups. We cover track and field, cross country, road running and trail/ mountain running. Club coaches have undertaken Athletics Ireland coaching courses and many of them bring years of experience and knowledge to share with members.
