JONATHAN NANGLE

1.When did you start running?

As cyclist I never ever wanted to run, if anything I hated running with a passion but when the cross country season of 2013 came around my grandfather signed me up for Trim AC and entered me and I soon got the running bug and never seemed to have lost it

2. When did you join Trim AC ?

Autumn 2013

3.Why do you run ?

To see how far and fast I can get before I start to slow down

4.Favourite event, race or competition ?

If anything it has to be Braveheart. Theres just something in the water on the lead up to Braveheart and when racing around fields we train in with a massive crowd roaring you on its surreal, but still once you cross the finish line up to the yellow steeple the homely feel of the local 5k comes back to you as your welcomed by the tea and sambos

5. Have you any pre event routine apart from your warmup ?

Mammy always has to put my number on my singlet it’s bad luck if she doesn’t put it on

6. Favourite type of training. ?

Long runs all day everyday if I could

7.Who is your athletics hero ?

Haile Gebrselassie, I don’t think there’s any reason to explain myself here

8. What is your best memory from the sport ?

Any time I got a PB in any distance was always a memorable moment as it’s me hitting mile stones to the main goa

9. What is the best race or athletics competition you ever watched but did not take part in ?

Dublin City Marathon every year since 2013, I have gone up to the race every year to watch either my mother, grandfather or club mates run in it every year and it’s a race that just gives me the hunger and drive to one day excel over the marathon distance

10. What aspect of the sport gives you satisfaction ?

Speed, everyone wants to be able to run fast and the faster I get the the more satisfaction I get out of running

11. How important is group training to you ? Group session are good for your mental state so your not always running on your own but when running with a group it will help you to excel and become a stronger runner

12. Has the sport influenced life in general ?

Massively, if I never discovered running and stayed cycling when I was 14 I probably would of never went on to discover the world I live in now which is Duathlon and triathlon

13 . Have you a favourite meal before or after events ?

A Pyrex bowl of porridge

14. What motivates you to go training on a wet and windy day ?

If anything I love wet days when running!! Wind not so much but usually I have someone at home ready to rare on me if I try to pull the plug on a run due to bad weather

15. What advice would you give a new member ?

Try keep the fun side of running and don’t up your weekly mileage too fast or you’ll soon pick up an injury which is the last thing you want
